Are there any recipes for ';tuna fish salad'; that does NOT use mayonnaise?

My body does not agree with mayonnaise, and I love tuna. Unfortunately, I've never heard of a tuna recipe without using mayo. Does anyone know a recipe to make ';tuna fish salad'; without using mayonnaise? Preferably, a recipe that can use canned tuna (I'm a college student, and this is much easier than purchasing a fillet of tuna). yes you can use some of the sweet pickle juice from the pickle you should put in it.. You could add a bit of stiff sour cream or stiff yogurt for creaminess.


2 T stiff yogurt or firm sour cream


2 cans tuna (5.5 oz) in water, drained


2-3 shallots (or scallions), finely chopped


1 stalk celery, chopped


chopped sweet pickles and


2 T of pickle juice


salt %26amp; pepper to taste


(optional) 1 hard boiled egg, chopped


Place yogurt in strainer in refrigerator to let the water seperate and leak out so the yogurt will be firm. Throw away strained out water.


Mix together: strained yogurt, drained tuna, chopped celery, finely chopped shallots, salt %26amp; pepper to taste. Sometimes I add a chopped hard boiled egg, which is nutritious, but that adds fat.


For low-salt salad, use low-salt tuna %26amp; don't add salt. Serve on salad greens or on whole wheat bread with lettuce and tomato slices.

6 eggs


1 1/2 cups bread and butter pickles


3 stalks celery, chopped


2 (6 ounce) cans tuna, drained


1/2 teaspoon salt


1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper


1 tablespoon sweet pickle juice








DIRECTIONS


Place egg in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, and cool under cold running water. Peel.


Place the eggs and pickles into a food processor, and pulse until roughly chopped. Transfer to a medium bowl, and stir in tuna and celery. Season with salt and pepper, and stir in the pickle juice until thoroughly blended. Serve on bread or lettuce.
Penne with Herbed Tomato-tuna Sauce





1 tbsp Olive oil


1 small onion, chopped


4 cloves garlic, minced


1 can of diced tomatoes


2 tsp dried basil or chopped fresh


1/4 tsp hot pepper flakes


1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley


1 can of tuna packed in water,drained





In heavy saucepan, heat oil over medium heat cook onion


and garlic for 5 mins. Season with salt and pepper to taste and parsley.





In large pot of boiling water cook penne until tender but firm drain. toss with tomato mixture and tuna and serve immediately.

Salsa Tuna Salad





Ingredients:


1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt


1/4 cup salsa


1/4 teaspoon pepper


2 cans (6 ounces each) tuna, drained and flaked


1 cup frozen corn, thawed


1 cup chopped green pepper


Lettuce leaves, optional


Directions:


In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, salsa and pepper. Stir in the tuna, corn and green pepper. Serve in a lettuce-lined bowl if desired. Yield: 6 servings.
I've never tried it, so I can't guarantee that this will work. But I believe you can get away with substituting sour cream or plain yogurt for the mayo.

My husband likes to mix salsa and tuna fish to make a tuna salad sandwich. I don't know if this is what you are looking for...but it's a suggestion.


You could also do tuna, lemon juice, and some fresh chopped herbs.
Just omit the mayo and add all the things that you like ie: scallions, olives,celery,sweet pickles, hard boiled egg, salt/pepper. Then add some olive oil or even your favorite mustard.
have you tried just tossing it with lemon juice and a bit of oil? add in your favourite seasonings (i like Old Bay), some celery and parsley and you're set.
yes you can use just white vinegar that is you like the natural taste of things you eat try it
